The Committee is concerned that, although the inequality of income distribution in the State party has diminished, it remains very marked, as is reflected in the country' s Gini coefficient of 49.0.
It has also shown that the Gini coefficient declines significantly, even by more than 10 percentage points, in Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Sweden, as a result of such transfers.
The result has been a drop in the Gini coefficient from 0.41 to 0.36 during the period of 2005 to 2009, giving Nicaragua the lowest level of inequality in Central America.
As the growth rates of many developing and transition economies picked up significantly in the new millennium, the income gap between countries narrowed somewhat, with the Gini coefficient declining to 0.56.
