The plan of action reiterates the commitments undertaken as part of the Beijing Platform for Action and the Millennium Development Goals, and it responds to the gender in development strategy advocated under section 7 of the presidential programme for the period from 2009 to 2014 entitled" Together, let ' s meet the challenges".
Pursuant to the strategies and initiatives identified in its programme framework(1996-1998) the Fund, during the biennium, continued to increase its focus on the expansion of its advocacy role in the promotion of sustainable human development themes such as poverty elimination, sustainable livelihoods, gender in development and environmental management, as well as a number of infrastructure activities.
The Committee examined a draft of the report to be submitted to the Council at its 1997 coordination segment on gender mainstreaming with inputs, inter alia, from the Gender in Development Sub-Group of the Joint Consultative Group on Policy.
Pursuant to the strategies and initiatives identified in its programme framework(1996- 1998), the Fund, during the biennium, increased its focus on the expansion of its advocacy role in the promotion of such sustainable human development themes as poverty elimination, sustainable livelihoods, gender in development and environmental management.
It reaffirms the objectives established in the Strategy on Gender in Development, the Action Plan for Women and Peacebuilding, in application of resolution 1325(2000), and the Sector Gender Action Plan of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation(AECID), foreseeing specific actions for formal equality, real equality and for the empowerment of women, thus consolidating Spain ' s leadership as a donor committed to gender equality.

UNDP gender-related programming, the Africa Section has been engaged in a three-way dialogue with the Regional Programme and Policy Analysis Division of the Regional Bureau for Africa, and the Gender in Development Programme of the Bureau for Programme Policy and Evaluation, of the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP).
Following the endorsement of WomenWatch as an inter-agency project by the Inter-Agency Committee on Women and Gender Equality at its third session, the World Bank, UNDP(Sustainable Development Networking Programme and Gender in Development Programme) and the Spanish National Machinery have joined the site as contributing partners and are thus members of the WomenWatch Web Committee, which sets policy for the site.
