MacKay, then a professor at the University of Cambridge, calculated that wind energy requires about 700 times more land to produce the same amount of energy as a fracking site.
Devoid of obstacles to block or slow it, the North Sea region's wind energy is about 50 percent greater offshore than on land, according to the European Wind Energy Association.
Morten Dyrholm, Chairman of the Global Wind Energy Council, said:“Wind energy is now one of the cheapest forms of electricity in many markets.(In 2018) Installations of wind capacity overtook new fossil fuel capacity in many mature and emerging markets for the first time. These are strong fundamentals for a now mainstream energy source.[15]”.
