After organizing the whole document, the writer typically creates a final outline that shows the document structure. Outlines make the writing process easier and save the author time.
This concept is similar to the mechanism by which many word processors allow styles to be defined globally for an entire document or the use of Cascading Style Sheets to style HTML.
This allows metadata to be attached to any stream in the document, such as information about embedded illustrations, as well as the whole document(attaching to the document catalog), using an extensible schema.
