The International Association of Judges was founded in Salzburg, Austria, in 1953 as a professional, non-political, international organization grouping not individual judges, but national associations of judges.
A follow-up conference is planned for the summer of 2012, to be organized by the Salzburg Global Seminar, the United States National Holocaust Museum and the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria.
