Mr. Karamanlis(Greece): I wish to thank both Co-Chairpersons of the High-level Plenary Meeting, El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba, President of Gabon, and Mr. Göran Persson, Prime Minister of Sweden, for presiding over this meeting.
I clearly see in this election a mark of consideration for, and a tribute to, my country, Gabon, to its President, His Excellency El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba, and to the entire African continent.
Mr. Muita(Kenya): Let me begin my statement by echoing the many messages of sincere condolences and commiseration to the people and Government of Gabon on the demise of their President, His Excellency El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba.
Mr. Nzouba Ndama(Gabon)(spoke in French): Mr. President, I wish to convey to you the thanks of the President of the Gabonese Republic, His Excellency Mr. Ali Bongo Ondimba, for your invitation to this High-level Meeting on Youth.
The political situation has, however, been marked by an unexpected event: André Mba Obame declared himself" President of Gabon" and appointed an 18-member" insurrectional government" 17 months after the 2009 presidential election won by President Ali Bongo Ondimba.
This vision of the founding fathers of our Organization is also shared by my country and its President, El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba, who has always been able to work for the protection and promote human rights.
In addition, on 12 October 2010 the First Lady, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba, delivered a large number of mobility aids, comprising 250 wheelchairs, scooters and about 100 crutches, to persons with disabilities, including women with disabilities, in Libreville.
We owe that situation to the facilitation of the heads of State who are friends of Chad and we mention in particular His Excellency El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba of Gabon and His Excellency Mr. Boni Yayi of Benin.
At the request of his brother and senior, the dean of the heads of State of Central Africa, His Excellency El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba, the President of the Republic agreed to receive and welcome the former President of the world ' s very first black republic, Haiti, Mr. Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
Mr. Nhleko(Swaziland): On behalf of the Group of African States and the people of Africa and on my own behalf, I stand here today to express our heartfelt condolences to the Government and the people of the Gabonese Republic on the sad loss of an eminent African leader, President El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba.
The contacts established and pursued thanks to the mediation of the Gabonese Head of State, H. E. El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba, between the Government and the opposition abroad, reflected in the visit to N ' Djamena at the end of July 2007 by the exiled former Chadian Head of State, Mr. Goukouni Wedeye, leading a large opposition delegation.

On 12 March, following discussions between the Chairperson of CEMAC, President Ali Bongo Ondimba, and the President of the CEMAC Commission, Pierre Moussa, it was decided to relocate CEMAC headquarters from Bangui to Libreville, given the ongoing security situation in the Central African Republic.
On 16 April 2011, the First Lady, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba, established the Sylvia Bongo Ondimba Foundation for the family, which campaigns for State reforms to prevent the dispossession and ill-treatment of widows and orphans. She also campaigned for the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of International Widows ' Day, which is celebrated annually on 23 June.
It welcomed the role played in this regard by the international community and in particular by Their Excellencies Mr. Thabo Mbeki, Mr. Denis Sassou Nguesso and Mr. El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba, Presidents, respectively, of the Republic of South Africa, the Republic of the Congo and the Gabonese Republic.

The First Lady, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba, has established the Fondation Sylvia Bongo Ondimba pour le soutien de la famille(Sylvia Bongo Ondimba Foundation for the Family) with a view to informing, educating and changing behaviour among women, enhancing the quality of care provided to women in health-care facilities and strengthening community-based care.
