The keynote presentation, entitled" The International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems: a system of systems" was made by a representative of the Office for Outer Space Affairs.

The Second Meeting of the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems was held in Bangalore, India, on 6 and 7 September 2007 and was hosted by the Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO).
The working group on specific applications of global navigation satellite systems considered the following application areas: aviation, transportation, the management of natural resources and natural disasters, and the protection of the environment.
(b) The United Nations/China/European Space Agency Training Course on the Use and Applications of Global Navigation Satellite Systems, held in Beijing from 4 to 8 December 2006(see A/AC.105/883).

In 2001 and 2002, the United Nations Programme on Space Applications will organize four regional workshops on the use of global navigation satellite systems(GNSS), with funding provided by the Government of the United States.
In its resolution 64/86 of 10 December 2009, the General Assembly welcomed the fact that the regional centres would serve as information centres of the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems(ICG).
Sweden participates in the ESA programme element(ARTES 9), which is part of a cooperation project between ESA, Eurocontrol and the European Commission aiming at a European contribution to a Global Navigation Satellite System.
With a view to further developing the capabilities of such systems, Europe is implementing the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay System(EGNOS) and will consider a follow-up system, the Global Navigation Satellite System-2(GNSS-2).

(a) The already available Global Navigation and Positioning System for geoplanetary studies requiring data acquisition on a worldwide scale to ensure progress in the understanding of geophysical phenomena;
This led to the establishment of the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems to prepare a study on the creation of an international space disaster management coordination entity for review by intergovernmental bodies.
The Subcommittee noted that the Compass satellite navigation system, operated by China, comprised five geostationary satellites and 30 non-geostationary satellites and was to be a global navigation satellite system.
