Food at the home stay was nabe(oden). We appreciated that the family cooked for us outdoors and made us feel comfortable as guests. Nabe is not well known for people outside of Japan so I think it's interesting and authentic to experience it in a homestay. The family did not speak English so we had fun trying to communicate and understand each other. We also enjoyed sitting out in the cold eating hot food.
