اور جب ہم نے فرشتوں سے فرمایا کہ آدم کو سجدہ کرو تو سب سجدہ میں گرے مگر ابلیس، اس نے نہ مانا

When Iblees knew of his fate, he asked Allaah to give him respite

Satan has life until the Last Day, but is cursed as Iblees by Allah.
یہ زندگی ایک دارالامتحان ہے۔ آدمی کی پیدائیش سے لے کر قیامت تک اللہ تعالیٰ اور شیطان کی دشمنی چلے گی

Iblees or Satan as we know him, was of the jinn, but before the creation of Adam(AS), he was a teacher of 60,000 angels. Some traditions point out the fact that he had been worshipping Allah for 400,000 years.
ابلیس، یا جیسا کہ ہم اسے جانتے ہیں، شیطان، جِنوں میں سے تھا، مگر تخلیقِ آدم(ع) سے پہلے وہ ساٹھ ہزار فرشتوں کا معلم تھا۔ کچھ روایات میں آتا ہے کہ وہ چار سو ہزار سالوں سے خدا کی عبادت کرتا آرہا تھا

Iblees said,"My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make[disobedience]
اس نے کہا کہ پروردگار جس طرح تو نے مجھے گمراہ کیا ہے میں ان بندوں کے لئے زمین میں ساز

Allah said,"O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands? Were you arrogant[then], or were you[already] among the haughty?".
رب نے فرمایا"اے ابلیس، تجھے کیا چیز اُس کو سجدہ کرنے سے مانع ہوئی جسے میں نے اپنے دونوں ہاتھوں سے بنایا ہے؟ تو بڑا بن رہا ہے یا تو ہے ہی کچھ اونچے درجے کی ہستیوں میں سے؟

Iblees said,"My Lord,
(شیطان نے) کہا

Iblees said,"My Lord,
اس نے کہا اے میرے رب!

so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was not of those who prostrated.
وہ سب سجدے میں گرے مگر ابلیس، یہ سجدہ کرنے والوں میں نہ ہوا

by the mercy of Allaah they see us and we do not see them, as Allaah says of Iblees and his tribe(interpretation of the meaning).
اللہ تعالی نے ابلیس اور اس کے قبیلے کے متعلق مندرجہ ذیل آیت میں ارشاد فرمایا ہے

اور جب ہم نے فرشتوں سے کہا آدم کو سجدہ کرو تو سوائے ابلیس کے سب سجدہ میں گر پڑے کہا کیا میں ایسے شخص کو سجدہ کروں جسےتو نے مٹی بنایا ہے

Iblees said,"My Lord,
ابلیس نے کہا: اے پروردگار!

And he[Iblees] had over them no authority except[if it was decreed] that We might make evident who believes in the Hereafter from who is thereof in doubt.
شیطان کا ان پر کوئی زور نہ تھا مگر اسلئے کہ ہم ان لوگوں کو جو آخرت پر ایمان رکھتے ہیں ظاہر کردیں ان لوگوں میں سے جو اس سے شک میں ہیں
