During the Taisho and Showa Eras, there was a shift to dry-goods shops and department stores, and the street became a lively one for young people to enjoy shopping.
Japanese people used to live in this district. However, people moved out because of a landslide that occurred due to heavy rain in the early Showa Era and coastal erosion later.
At the Glass Museum, there are glass works built from well over 3000 years ago as well as glass items which were used between the Edo and Showa Eras on display.
