On 9 August, the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General for Yemen, Jamal Benomar, briefed the Council on the situation in Yemen, which he had visited from 20 to 30 July.
The Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Yemen, Jamal Benomar, and the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al-Zayani, briefed the Council on recent developments.

During the mission, the representatives of the Security Council were also briefed by the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Yemen, Jamal Benomar, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, and members of the United Nations country team.

On 20 June, the Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on Yemen, Jamal Benomar, provided a briefing in closed consultations on the situation in the country, highlighting the continuing political process, in particular the work of Constitution Drafting Committee, and the recent government offensive against Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.
As specified in Yemen ' s Transition Agreement facilitated by the Special Adviser, Jamal Benomar, and signed on 23 November 2011 in Riyadh, the National Dialogue Conference is intended to develop the foundations for a new constitution that will be submitted to the Yemeni people in a referendum.
In this regard it welcomes the continued and coordinated efforts of the Gulf Cooperation Council,'Group of Ten Ambassadors ', the Secretary-General ' s Good Offices, including through the Special Adviser Jamal Benomar, the wider diplomatic community, and the next Friends of Yemen meeting that will take place on 7 March in London.

On 18 September, the Security Council held consultations of the whole, during which the Special Adviser of the Secretary-General for Yemen, Jamal Benomar, reported on the recent political and security developments, and the Deputy Director of the Coordination and Response Division of the Office of the Coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs of the Secretariat, Philippe Lazzarini, reported on the humanitarian situation.
I take note that in its resolution 2051(2012), the Security Council" requests the Secretary-General to continue his good offices role, including through the efforts of his Special Adviser, Jamal Benomar", and in this regard" welcomes the political engagement of the United Nations through a small presence in Yemen consisting of a team of experts to support the implementation of the transition process".
Also on 21 December, the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General for Yemen, Jamal Benomar, delivered a briefing in closed consultations on the outcome of his trip to Yemen from 8 to 17 December, during which he had met with the President and Vice-President of Yemen, and other political actors, as well as protestors in Sana ' a and Taiz, southern movements in Aden and Huthi leaders in Saada.
