Statements were made by the observers for the International Council of Scientific Unions a non-governmental organization in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, category II, and the Third World Network(a non-governmental organization accredited to the Commission).
At its ministerial meeting on science and technology, held in September 2006 in Rio de Janeiro, the G-77 launched the Consortium on Science, Technology and Innovation for the South, formerly the Third World Network of Scientific Organizations.

In collaboration with the South Centre and the Third World Network and with its own publication, Cooperation South, the Unit was able to provide developing countries with some much needed analysis and policy options for accelerating national socio-economic progress and integration into the global economy.
With support from TCDC, the Third World Network(TWN) provided, for a broad constituency of both state and non-state actors in the South, sensitization and analytical materials on trade and trade-related issues and on the impact of globalization on the South.

The framework proposes the undertaking by the Special Unit of comprehensive research and analysis of all aspects of South-South cooperation by engaging directly in such programmes as well as by pooling and synthesizing the work produced by other United Nations organizations and independent'think tanks ' such as the Third World Network and the World Trade University.

Ministers of Science and Technology of the Group of 77 and China had recently approved a decision to transform the Third World Network of Scientific Organizations into the Consortium of Science, Technology and Innovation for the South, which would contribute to the promotion and development of knowledge and technology in the South through the exchange of expertise.
Statements were also made by a senior researcher of the Third World Network(civil society); the permanent representative to the United Nations of the International Chamber of Commerce(business sector); the special representative to the United Nations of the Company of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul(civil society); the Executive Director of the Global Clearinghouse for Development Finance(business sector); and the representative of the Sisters of Charity Federation(civil society).
Along with the Third World Organization for Women in Science, which now has over 2,000 members from some 80 developing countries, and the Third World Network of Scientific Organizations, a non-governmental alliance of some 150 scientific organizations in the South, the Third World Academy of Sciences had a key role in supporting the October 2002 Group of 77 meeting on science and technology held in Dubai.
These included the World Bank, WTO, OECD, ITC, the World Tourism Organization(UN-WTO), ITU, ECA, African Union, the ACP Group of States and the African Export-Import Bank, as well as the International Lawyers and Economists Against Poverty(ILEAP), Centre for Research on Multilateral Corporations(SOMO) and the Third World Network.
the Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation based at Jakarta and the Third World Network based in Malaysia, which have been actively involved in the promotion of South-South cooperation.
(c) Side events on enhancing the participation of major groups from Asia and the Pacific region in the implementation cycle for the sixteenth and seventeenth sessions, held on 27 November 2007 by the Division for Sustainable Development of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, ESCAP, the Third World Network and Women Organizing for Change in Agricultural and Natural Resources Management.
