GitHub is a perfect platform for many operations, but for large, complex companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others, there can be many limitations to using the standard GitHub offerings.
In conversation with InfoQ, GitHub explained that they are using the 3-phase commit protocol to handle distributed transactions and that“DGit has almost eliminated service interruptions from the Git layer caused by single host or whole rack outages”.
GitHub has not laid blame for the attacks, writing on Saturday that"based on reports we have received, we believe the intent of this attack is to convince us to remove a specific class of content.".
As of March, GitHub is used by 24 million people regularly to collaborate and share code and hosts 80 million source code repositories for software in languages like JavaScript, Python, and C++.

A GitHub spokesperson has acknowledged to InfoQ that some of the features that have been recently introduced were requested in“Dear GitHub”, and that GitHub has been listening, and confirmed their commitment“to add features to GitHub to make it a great experience for all of our communities”.
