Despite being a fairly recent discovery in the health community of the United States, sacha inchi has been cultivated and used as a food source for 3,000 years in the Amazon rainforest.
In the past, a weak licensing system, along with continued indiscriminate, illicit logging of Ipê(formerly Tabebuia spp., but reclassified as Handroanthus spp.), has caused serious damage to the Amazon rainforest according to a Greenpeace Brazil investigation.
In addition, while the satellite that was being used previously only allowed surveillance data for ascertaining the logging situation in the Amazon rainforest to be obtained a few times a year, with ALOS it had become possible to analyze new monitoring data for the entire Amazon region every forty-six days, regardless of the season.
