We also thank the Secretary-General for his comprehensive report on the progress made in the implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the Political Declaration on HIV/ AIDS(A/64/735).
Article 14 of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS states that" gender equality and the empowerment of women are fundamental elements in the reduction of the vulnerability of women and girls to HIV/AIDS.".
The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania is committed to the implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS(resolution S-26/2, annex) and is making every effort to fulfil its obligations.
Recalling the highlevel plenary meetings of the General Assembly held on 22 September 2003 devoted to the followup to the outcome of its twentysixth special session and the implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS.

Also reaffirms its full support for the implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS, adopted at the twenty-sixth special session of the General Assembly on 27 June 2001;Resolution S-26/2, annex.
In 2011, the General Assembly will undertake a comprehensive review of the progress achieved in implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS of 2001 and the Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS of 2006.
A/58/150. 2. In that regard, the attention of Member States is drawn to the report of the Secretary-General on progress towards implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS(A/58/184).
The African Group commends the work undertaken by the secretariat of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS(UNAIDS) and its cosponsoring agencies in the implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS.
I now give the floor to the Secretary-General, His Excellency Mr. Kofi Annan, to introduce his report entitled" Progress towards implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS"(A/58/184).
In 2001, world leaders adopted the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS in the effort to achieve Millennium Development Goal 6(to have, by 2015, halted and begun to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS).
Stressing the importance of fully implementing the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS,"Global Crisis- Global Action", Resolution S-26/2, annex. and taking note of the report of the Secretary-General, A/58/184.
The adoption by the General Assembly of the Millennium Declaration, the declaration of commitment on HIV/AIDS and the 2001-2010 Decade to Roll Back Malaria in Developing Countries, Particularly in Africa, are significant steps forward.
(a) Establishing the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS as a framework for action and accountability based on time-bound, measurable targets to guide the response at all levels;
Canada remains committed to the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS, and to the development of a comprehensive, integrated and coordinated response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
The urgent need to quicken the pace of the AIDS response has been highlighted in the Secretary-General' s new report entitled" The Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS: five years later"(A/60/736).
The final document, the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS, was transformed into a global plan of action in the international community' s fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
In paragraph 27, the following words should be inserted at the beginning of the paragraph:" Welcomes the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS adopted at the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on 2 June 2006 and".
(ii)" Reversing the global spread of HIV/AIDS-- integrating the Millennium Development Goals and the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS adopted by the General Assembly at its special session in June 2001";
At its twenty-sixth special session, the General Assembly, by its resolution S-26/2 of 27 June 2001, adopted the Declaration of Commitment on the Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome(HIV/AIDS).
