For many ESCAP countries, access to mobile telephony is widespread and, with a few exceptions, this aspect of target 10 has already been met in the region.
In 2012, 87.1 per cent of Bolivian homes had access to mobile telephony, representing 5.4 percentage points more than in 2011 and 43.6 percentage points more than in 2006.
In contrast, research has clearly shown an increased risk of road traffic injuries when drivers use mobile phones(either handheld or“hands-free”) while driving.
Even more remarkably, the highest growth of Internet users is in the Republic of Korea and the highest rate of growth in the use of mobile phones is in Africa, albeit from a low base.
As a minimum requirement, all countries should collect indicators HH5(individuals using a computer), HH7(individuals using the Internet) and HH10(individuals using a mobile telephone).
