New energy for new ideas: the BMW i plant in Leipzig obtains 100 % of its energy supply from regenerative sources, among them four wind turbines installed on the site specifically for this purpose. The carbon fibres are produced to 100 % with water power.
TIS 1942 Part 2-2542(1999)Connectors for optical fibres and cables- Part 14-1: Detail specification for fibre optic connector type SC-PC standard terminated to multimode fibre type A1a, A1b.
The BMW i3 and BMW i8 are the first vehicles in which the high-tech material carbon has been used for large-scale series production. For a long time, the use of carbon was limited because it had to be produced manually. Today, the BMW Group produces the carbon fibres and carbon fibre plates itself, which makes large-scale series production possible.
Louis Vuitton has designed a novel luggage series for the BMW i8, which is produced entirely from carbon fibres to match the passenger compartment. The cloth made of the extremely lightweight, yet robust high-tech material is characterised by its tremendous resistance to impact, tearing and abrasion. Like the BMW i8, the luggage series impresses with its unique design- elegant, masculine and unmistakeable.
Visibly sustainable: The extensive use of kenaf replaces petroleum-based plastics and reduces the weight of the BMW i3, because the kenaf fibres are up to 30% lighter than conventional material. They are harvested from malva plants, which convert CO2 into oxygen at an above-average rate.
Textile auxiliary formulations are critical in the manufacturing processes for yarns, nonwoven fabrics and all valuable products made from fibres. They prevent wear and rupture of the fibres, avoid electrostatic charging of fibres and reduce dust formation on fibres and roller points. These formulations can be applied either as an emulsion with water as a spin finish or pure as coning oil.
Natural, renewable, and sustainable: the interior of the BMW i3 features door trim panels and a dashboard made from renewable natural fibres, naturally tanned leather, and open-pore eucalyptus wood sourced from 100 % FSC®-certified forestry. Overall, 25 % renewable raw materials and recycled plastics were used in the interior of the BMW i3. The textile upholsteries are made of up to 100 % recycled polyster, produced using 34 % PET. A further 25 % recycled plastics are used in the exterior.
