WASHINGTON, March 30, 2015- The World Bank Group today announced that Vanuatu has received a US$1.9 million payout from the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Pilot, the first of several measures that will help the Pacific Island country recover from Tropical Cyclone Pam, which struck the Pacific Island country on March 13.
WASHINGTON, April 7, 2016- The World Bank Group today announced plans to help developing countries add 30 gigawatts of renewable energy- enough to power 150 million homes- to the world's energy capacity, bring early warning systems to 100 million people and develop climate-smart agriculture investment plans for at least 40 countries- all by 2020.
Has been set as a priority in the World Bank Group, as part of our efforts to achieve the two goals we have set: Eliminating extreme poverty by the year 2030 and promoting shared prosperity. We have worked in partnership with the Government of Japan in the area of Global Health, by cooperating in many ways.
As part of its response, the Bank Group plans to bring early warning systems to 100 million people across 15 developing countries, and help bring adaptive social protection- social safety nets that can quickly support people affected by a disaster or an economic shock- to an additional 50 million poor people by 2020.
Following the announcements by the Government of Japan in February and April this year, JBIC is currently working to implement a US$1.5 billion trade finance facility(which will support overall total trade transactions worth up to US$60 billion over the next two-year period). The World Bank Group also launched the Global Trade Liquidity Program(GTLP) to be managed by the IFC in this April.
ACCRA, Ghana, October 16, 2015- Africa's strong economic growth has contributed to improving people's health and education in the past 20 years as well as major reductions in poverty in several countries, but a rapid rise in population has led to increases in the overall number of extreme poor, the World Bank Group said Friday in a comprehensive report on poverty in the region.
