Voluntary contributions to the Environment Fund have increased and available funds for the biennium 2008- 2009 are expected to exceed the total appropriation for 2008- 2009 of $152 million.
As a result, pledges and contributions to the Environment Fund increased by more than 85 per cent, from $48 million in 2003 to more than $88 million in 2008;
Taking submissions by Parties and the GEF report into account, the COP, at its thirteenth session, is expected to develop guidance to the GEF on several issues.

UNEP continues to mobilize additional contributions from various nongovernmental sources, including non-earmarked payments to the Environment Fund and earmarked contributions in support of priority projects and programme activities.
Table 1B of the report shows proposed adjustments to the Environment Fund' s resource plan for 2000-2001 and provides comparisons with both the approved budget for 2000-2001 and the proposed budget for 2002-2003.
The projected contributions to the Environment Fund of $118.0 million in 2000-2001- as shown in table 2- were approved by the Governing Council at its twentieth session in February 1999.
The projected contributions to the Environment Fund of $116.7 million for the biennium 2002-2003, as shown in table 2, were approved by the Governing Council at its twenty-first session, in February 2001.
(b) The correct application of co-financing for LDCF projects including to GEF agencies, such us through the provision of examples of its successful application in approved LDCF projects;
The reconciliation and the biosphere reserve approach may appeal to GEF, given its recognition that“Limiting access to protected areas increases pressures on other land.
Nevertheless, many country stakeholders do not find it easy to understand GEF goals, objectives and operational modalities, which can lead to misconceptions about the GEF mandate and processes.
