At its 51st meeting, on 3 June 2004, the Committee had before it a draft resolution entitled" Estimates in respect of special political missions, good offices and other political initiatives authorized by the General Assembly and/or the Security Council"(A/C.5/58/L.86), which was submitted by the Chairman on the basis of informal consultations coordinated by the representative of Austria.
The Committee was informed that the requirements for 2005 would be included in the consolidated report on estimates in respect of special political missions, good offices and other political initiatives authorized by the General Assembly and/or the Security Council, to be submitted to the General Assembly at its fifty-ninth session, before 31 December 2004.
A separate report on estimates in respect of matters of which the Security Council was seized(A/C.5/57/23)
The estimates in respect of international staff positions were based on salary costs derived from the actual average expenditure by category and grade level in the 2005/06 period and included requirements for hazardous duty station allowance based on the amount of $1,300 per person per month in effect since 1 January 2007.
Moreover, the Committee will make relevant comments and recommendations in the context of the report to be submitted by the Secretary-General during the main part of the sixtieth session of the General Assembly on the estimates in respect of special political missions, good offices and other political initiatives authorized by the Assembly and/or the Security Council.

The estimates in respect of the international staff positions are based on salary costs derived from the actual average expenditure by staff category and grade levels in the 2005/06 period and include hazardous duty station allowance requirements based on an amount of $1,300 per person per month in effect since 1 January 2007 for 5 international staff positions.

As concerns security requirements for special political missions, most notably the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq(UNAMI) and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan(UNAMA), the mission-specific requirements will be addressed in connection with the review, during the fifty-ninth session, of the report of the Secretary-General entitled" Special political missions: estimates in respect of matters of which the Security Council is seized"(A/59/__).
It was also indicated that the trial schedule and the budget proposal for the biennium 2008-2009 did not take into account the resource requirements related to the trials of the six fugitives, and accordingly, estimates in respect of these six fugitives would be addressed in the context of revised estimates as and when the fugitives are apprehended.
With respect to the resources for the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, she welcomed their inclusion in the report of the Secretary-General containing the estimates in respect of cluster I(A/67/346/Add.1) and reiterated her delegation ' s support for the functions performed by the Special Adviser under his mandate, which derived solely from intergovernmental decisions.
At its 9th meeting, on 15 October, the Committee had before it a draft resolution, entitled" Estimates in respect of special political missions, good offices and other political initiatives authorized by the General Assembly and/or the Security Council: United Nations support to the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission"(A/C.5/59/L.3), which was submitted by the Chairman on the basis of informal consultations coordinated by the representative of Austria.

II.17 The Advisory Committee will make its relevant comments and recommendations as regards the staffing and non-staffing proposals in the context of the report of the Secretary-General containing the estimates in respect of special political missions, good offices and other political initiatives authorized by the General Assembly and/or the Security Council to be submitted to the Assembly at the main part of its sixty-sixth session.
Mr. Halbwachs(Controller), introducing the report of the Secretary-General on estimates in respect of special political missions, good offices and other political initiatives authorized by the General Assembly and/or the Security Council(A/59/534/Add.1), said that it contained the proposed resource requirements for the period up to 31 December 2005 of 25 special political missions authorized by the General Assembly and/or the Security Council.
The Committee will make its relevant comments and recommendations as regards the staff and non-staff proposals in the context of the submission of the report of the Secretary-General containing the estimates in respect of special political missions, good offices and other political initiatives authorized by the Assembly and/ or the Council to be submitted to the Assembly at the main part of its sixty-fourth session.
