Serbia, which recognized the importance of the sustainable and responsible development of tourism, supported the work of the World Tourism Organization(UNWTO) and encouraged it to continue to promote and disseminate the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism.
Ms. Flores(Honduras), introducing draft resolution A/C.2/65/L.35, said that over 100 Member States had responded to a survey conducted by the United Nations World Tourism Organization on implementation of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism.
The Summit produced the Amman Declaration on Peace through Tourism, which was taken note of by the General Assembly in its resolution 56/212 of 21 December 2001 entitled" Global code of ethics for tourism".
(i) Guidelines that specifically address the tourism sector, such as the Guidelines on Biodiversity and Tourism, the UNWTO mechanisms for poverty alleviation through tourism and the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism;
In several countries, UNWTO is actively involved in developing and implementing tourism components of the MDG-F projects, a number of which fall in line with the general principles of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism.
Reiterates the invitation to Member States to consider introducing, as appropriate, the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism in their national legislations and relevant laws, regulations and professional practices, and, in this regard, recognizes with appreciation those Member States that have already done so;
The Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, adopted by the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization(UNWTO) on 1 October 1999 through its resolution 406(XIII) and acknowledged by the General Assembly of the United Nations in resolution 56/212, constitutes a comprehensive set of basic principles.
Adopting the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism which defines the principles of ethical, sustainable and responsible tourism, and adapting it into a national regulatory framework for the tourism industry, where the Government is responsible for granting licences and control of the tourism industry(transport, agencies and tour operators, hotels, guesthouses, clubs etc.);
Welcomes the work of the World Tourism Organization and its World Committee on Tourism Ethics in the implementation of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, as adopted by the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in 1999, and welcomes the establishment of the permanent secretariat of the Committee in Rome;

Recalling further its resolutions 53/200 of 15 December 1998 entitled" Proclamation of 2002 as the International Year of Ecotourism", 65/148 of 20 December 2010 entitled" Global Code of Ethics for Tourism" and 66/196 of 22 December 2011 entitled" Sustainable tourism and sustainable development in Central America".
(c) Reinforce advocacy with the tourism industry on the harmful effects of child sex tourism; widely disseminate the World Tourism Organization Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, and the provisions of the Optional Protocol, including information on legal sanctions among travel agents and tourism agencies;
At the 28th meeting, on 12 November, the representative of Honduras, on behalf of Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, the Gambia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jordan, Mexico, Montenegro, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, the Republic of Korea and Solomon Islands, introduced a draft resolution entitled" Global Code of Ethics for Tourism"(A/C.2/65/L.35).
Encourages the World Tourism Organization, through its World Committee on Tourism Ethics and the permanent secretariat of the Committee, to continue to promote and disseminate the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism and to monitor the implementation of the ethical principles related to tourism by both the public and the private sectors;
The World Tourism Organization had responded to the challenge facing it in several ways. A Global Code of Ethics for Tourism had been negotiated and unanimously approved by member countries in 1999 and had been noted with interest by the United Nations General Assembly in 2001.
A World Committee on Tourism Ethics had been created to monitor, evaluate and guide the implementation of the Code. In conclusion, he called on the governments that had not already taken steps to disseminate and implement the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism to develop a policy in that regard.
At its 31st meeting, on 24 November, the Committee had before it a revised draft resolution entitled" Global Code of Ethics for Tourism"( A/C.2/65/L.35/Rev.1), submitted by Costa Rica, Djibouti, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Finland, the Gambia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Jordan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, the Republic of Korea, Seychelles, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, Spain, Thailand and Ukraine.
The Task Force meetings, held annually at international travel and tourism fairs, serve as a platform for both the public and private tourism sectors, including civil society and the media, to exchange experiences and best practices, promote the adoption of professional codes of conduct and responsible practices, in line with the World Tourism Organization Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, as well as to disseminate awareness-raising materials and capacity-building tools.
