Recognizing the continued urgent need for increased and predictable financial contributions to the United Nations Habitat and Human Settlements Foundation to ensure timely, effective and concrete global implementation of the Habitat Agenda, the Declaration on Cities and Other Human Settlements in the New Millennium and the relevant internationally agreed development goals, including those contained in the Millennium Declaration, the Johannesburg Declaration and the Plan of Implementation of the World Summit on Sustainable Development.
The outcome document further commits to promoting an integrated approach to planning and building sustainable cities and urban settlements, while seeking to promote sustainable development policies that support inclusive housing and social services(para. 135); and stresses the need to strengthen existing cooperation mechanisms and platforms, partnership arrangements and other implementation tools to advance the coordinated implementation of the UN-Habitat Agenda, and recognizes the continuing need for adequate and predictable financial contributions to the UN-Habitat and the Human Settlements Foundation(para. 137).
The strengthening of the United Nations Habitat and Human Settlement Foundation was also called for, in line with General Assembly resolution 3327(XXXX) of 16 December 1974.
Finally, Member States should be encouraged to support financially the" Opportunities Fund for Urban Youth-led Development", established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Habitat and Human Settlement Foundation(UN-Habitat).
The main deliberations of the CPR Committee ' s meeting of 13 September 2002 centered on the outcome of the World Summit on Sustainable Development(Johannesburg, 26 August to 4 September 2002), the implementation of the Wwork Pprogramme of UN-HABITAT, including the global campaigns for Ssecure Ttenure and Uurban Ggovernance, and strengthening the United Nations Human Settlements Foundations.
