The President of the Security Council wishes to recall that by paragraph 22 of its resolution 1265(1999) of 17 September 1999, in connection with the item entitled," Protection of civilians in armed conflict", the Security Council decided to establish immediately an appropriate mechanism to review further the recommendations contained in the report of the Secretary-General(S/1999/957) and to consider appropriate steps by April 2000 in accordance with its responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations.
