このようにわれは，かれらのある者で外を試みる。それはかれらに，「アッラーが恩恵を与える者は，わたしたちの中の，これらの人びとですか。」と言わせるためである。本当に感謝する者を，最もよく知る方はアッラーではないか。
In this way We try some of them by means of others, so that they may ask,"Are these[lowly ones] whom God has singled out for His favours from among us? Does God not know best who are the grateful ones?このようにわれは，わが命令によって，啓示（クルアーン）をあなたに下した。あなたは，啓典が何であるのか，また信仰がどんなものかを知らなかった。しかしわれは，これ（クルアーン）をわがしもべの中からわれの望む者を導く一条の光とした。あなたは，それによって（人びとを）正しい道に導くのである。
We thus inspired you spiritually, by Our command. You did not know what the Scripture is, nor what faith is, but このようにわれは，わが命令によって，啓示（クルアーン）をあなたに下した。あなたは，啓典が何であるのか，また信仰がどんなものかを知らなかった。しかしわれは，これ（クルアーン）をわがしもべの中からわれの望む者を導く一条の光とした。あなたは，それによって（人びとを）正しい道に導くのである。
And thus We have revealed to you an inspiration of Our command. You did not know what is the Book or[what is] faith, but 海岸の町（の人びと）に就いて，かれらに問え。かれらが安息日（の禁）を破った時のことを，魚群はかれらの安息日に水面に現われやって来ていた。だがかれらが安息日の禁を守らなかった時は，それらはやって来なくなったではないか。このようにわれはかれらを試みた。かれらが主の掟に背いていたためである。
Ask them about the town by the sea, when they violated the Sabbath. When they observed the Sabbath, their fish would come to them abundantly. But when they violated the Sabbath, their fish would not come to them. Thus We tried them because they disobeyed.海岸の町（の人びと）に就いて，かれらに問え。かれらが安息日（の禁）を破った時のことを，魚群はかれらの安息日に水面に現われやって来ていた。だがかれらが安息日の禁を守らなかった時は，それらはやって来なくなったではないか。このようにわれはかれらを試みた。かれらが主の掟に背いていたためである。
And ask thou them concerning the town that was close on the sea, when they transgressed in the matter of the sabt, when their fish came unto them openly on their sabt day, while they came not on the day whereon they kept not We proved them for the sabt. Thus they were wont to transgress.このようにわれは，あなたがたを中正の共同体〔ウンマ〕とする。それであなたがたは，人びとに対し証人であり，また使徒は，あなたがたに対し証人である。われがあなたがたの守っていたものに対し，この方向〔キブラ〕を定めたのは，只，踵を返す者と使徒に従う者とを見分けるためである。これは容易ではない事であるが，アッラーが導かれる者にとっては何でもない。だがアッラーは，あなたがたの信仰を決して虚しくなされない。本当にアッラーは人間に対し，限りなく優しく慈悲深い方であられる。
Thus We appointed you a midmost nation that you might be witnesses to the people, and that the Messenger might be a witness to you; and このようにわれは反逆者の心を封じる。
Thus We seal over the hearts of the transgressors.このようにわれは反逆者の心を封じる。
