With the decline in the fur trade, in 1832 Fontenelle sold the post to the US government for the Missouri River Indian Agency(also called the Bellevue Agency).
Flowing south from the lagoon to the river along the eastern edge of the'island' was a"Small boat Pass into Hillsboro' River", also called the Little Hillsboro.
One of these posters became the famous“We Can Do It!” image- an image that in later years would also be called“Rosie the Riveter”, though it was never given this title during the war.
