Jeremiah was equally forceful in his criticism of false prophets, asking,"How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds?
Probably, I think, Jeremiah would have told it according to traditional covenant theology of Israel; but, should we not hear that new Israel is talking about here?
Jeremiah has told the word of the Lord over the three times in chapter 27, to the messenger of countries, to Zedekiah king, and to the priests and people.
Moreover Jeremiah said to king Zedekiah,"What have I offended against you, or against your servants, or against this people, that you have put me in prison?
For Jeremiah had come into the dungeon, that is, the vaulted cell; and Jeremiah stayed there many days."(15-16); the pen of Baruch accused the wrongfulness and did not stop it.
Thus Jeremiah, starting out from his conception of God, can characterize the gods of the heathen as"no gods," and can express his conviction that"among the idols of the heathen there is not one which can cause rain," whereas Yhwh has made all ib. xiv.
In the thirteenth verse, Jeremiah said,"For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely" Jeremiah 6:13.
Because Jeremiah shows understanding to eat and drink of Josiah as a king, probably he did not say anything to the standard of living to some extent, but Jehoiakim had abandoned the rule which is the duty of a king.
This chapter is a thing a little before(582-581 years?) of Babylon military attack, but, Jeremiah is preaching the allegiance to the Lord in the streets, and repeating the warning that"Why are you going to destroy yourselves?".
Jeremiah had told of the"law to be written in men's hearts," Ezekiel had spoken of a"new spirit to live in man's soul." and the Psalmist had prayed that God would"create a clean heart within and renew a right spirit.".
Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire…" Jeremiah 36:32.
They have the illusion that everything has gone well by doing them, but, in fact, because God had the patience for it, and you have overlooked it; Jeremiah informed the thought of God thus.
