At its sixty-fifth session, the General Assembly held the two-day high-level review to assess progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States and adopted a resolution containing the outcome document of the meeting(resolution 65/2).
(ii) Ad hoc expert groups: regional review of the progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation, in collaboration with the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States and the Department of Economic and Social Affairs(1); review of policy options to address emerging development issues in the Pacific(1);
Recalling further General Assembly resolution 63/213 of 19 December 2008 and reaffirming the importance of follow-up to and implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States, and reaffirming also the importance of the two-day high-level review, to be conducted at the sixty-fifth session of the Assembly, of the progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States.
Reaffirms its decision to review, at its sixty-fifth session, the progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through the implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation, decides to convene a two-day high-level review in September 2010 as a part of that session, and requests the Secretary-General to report to the Assembly at its sixty-fourth session on possible arrangements for the review;

Significant attention was given in the past year to the increasingly grave impact of climate change on the well-being and security of small island developing States. The decision of the General Assembly, in paragraph 12 of its resolution 62/191, to review at its sixty-fifth session progress made in addressing the vulnerabilities of small island developing States through implementation of the Mauritius Strategy is therefore both relevant and timely.

Pursuant to paragraph 7 of General Assembly resolution 65/165, and in line with focus areas 1, 2 and 3 of the medium-term strategic and institutional plan for the period 2008-2013, UN-Habitat has continued its existing cooperation on issues related to cities and climate change and has continued to play a complementary role in matters related to climate change within the United Nations system, in particular in addressing the vulnerability of cities to climate change.
