Neither those who disbelieve from the People of the Scripture nor the polytheists wish that any good should be sent down to you from your Lord. But Allah selects for His mercy whom He wills, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty.

And lo! of the People of the Scripture there are some who believe in Allah and that which is revealed unto you and that which was revealed unto them, humbling themselves before Allah. They purchase not a trifling gain at the price of the revelations of Allah. Verily their reward is with their Lord. Lo! Allah is swift to take account.

あなたがたは，人類に遺された最良の共同体である。あなたがたは正しいことを命じ，邪悪なことを禁じ，アッラーを信奉する。啓典の民も信仰するならば，かれらのためにどんなによかったか。だがかれらのある者は信仰するが，大部分の者はアッラーの掟に背くものたちである。
You are the best community that ever emerged for humanity: you advocate what is moral, and forbid what is immoral, and believe in God. Had the People of the Scripture believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are the believers, but most of them are sinners.

啓典の民の中，不信心者と多神教徒は，主からあなたがたに善いことが下るのを決して喜ばない。だがアッラーは，御心に適う者に，特別な慈悲をかけられる。アッラーは偉大な恩恵の主であられる。
Neither those who disbelieve among the people of the Scripture(Jews and Christians) nor Al-Mushrikun(the disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, idolaters, polytheists, pagans, etc.) like that there should be sent down unto you any good from your Lord. But Allah chooses for His Mercy whom He wills. And Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty.

Among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in God, and in what was revealed to you, and in what was revealed to them. They are humble before God, and they do not sell God's revelations for a cheap price. These will have their reward with their Lord. God is swift in reckoning.

They do not exchange the verses of Allah for a small price. Those will have their reward with their Lord. Indeed, Allah is swift in account.

O people of the Scripture(Jews and Christians)! Now has come to you Our Messenger(Muhammad SAW) explaining to you much of that which you used to hide from the Scripture and passing over(i.e. leaving out without explaining) much. Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a light(Prophet Muhammad SAW) and a plain Book this Quran.

仮令あなたが，凡ての印を啓典の民に提示しても，かれらはあなたのキブラに従わないであろう。またあなたもかれらのキブラに従わない。かれらは互いに，他の者のキブラに従わない。あなたに知識が授けられた後，もしかれらの（虚しい）望みに従うならば，本当にあなたは，不義を行う者の仲間である。
And even if you were to bring all the signs to the People given the Book(s), they would not follow your qiblah; nor should you follow their qiblah; nor do they follow each others qiblah; and were you(the followers of this Prophet) to follow their desires after having received knowledge, you would then surely be unjust.

You are the best among all the nations that were raised among mankind- you enjoin good deeds and forbid immorality and you believe in Allah; and if the People given the Book(s) believed it would be better for them; some of them are believers(Muslims) and most of them are disbelievers. The best Ummah is that of Prophet Mohammed- peace and blessings be upon him.

And undoubtedly there are some among the People given the Book(s), who accept faith in Allah and what is sent down to you and what was sent down to them- their hearts are submitted humbly before Allah- they do not exchange the verses of Allah for an abject price; they are those whose reward is with their Lord; indeed Allah is Swift At Taking Account.

Among the People of the Scripture there is he who, if thou trust him with a weight of treasure, will return it to thee. And among them there is he who, if thou trust him with a piece of gold, will not return it to thee unless thou keep standing over him. That is because they say: We have no duty to the Gentiles. They speak a lie concerning Allah knowingly.

They do not sell the Verses of Allah for a little price, for them is a reward with their Lord. Surely, Allah is Swift in account.

あなたは，偽信者たちが啓典の民の中の不信心な仲間に言うのを見なかったのか。「もしあなたがたが追放されるなら，わたしたちは一緒に出て行くであろう。あなたがたのことに関しては，誰にも決して従わないであろう。またあなたがたがもし攻撃されるならば，わたしたちは必ず助けるであろう。」だがアッラーは，かれらが真に虚言の徒であることを立証なされる。
Have you(O Muhammad SAW) not observed the hypocrites who say to their friends among the people of the Scripture who disbelieve:"(By Allah) If you are expelled, we(too) indeed will go out with you, and we shall never obey any one against you, and if you are attacked(in fight), we shall indeed help you." But Allah is Witness, that they verily, are liars.

The People of the Scripture challenge you to bring down to them a book from the sky. They had asked Moses for something even greater. They said,“Show us God plainly.” The thunderbolt struck them for their wickedness. Then they took the calf for worship, even after the clear proofs had come to them. Yet We pardoned that, and We gave Moses a clear authority.

啓典の民はあなたがたが天からかれらに啓典を(斎?)すことを求める。かれらは以前に，ムーサーに対しそれよりも大きいことを求めて，「わたしたちに，アッラーを目の当たり見せてくれ。」と言った。そのような不正のために，かれらは落雷にうたれて死んだ。それから，明白な種々の印がかれらに下った後，かれらは仔牛を崇拝した。それでもわれはこれを許して明確な権威をムーサーに授けた。
The People of the Scripture ask you to bring down to them a book from the heaven. But they had asked of Moses[even] greater than that and said,"Show us Allah outright," so the thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf[for worship] after clear evidences had come to them, and We pardoned that. And We gave Moses a clear authority.

And among the People of the Scripture is he who, if you entrust him with a great amount[of wealth], he will return it to you. And among them is he who, if you entrust him with a[single] silver coin, he will not return it to you unless you are constantly standing over him[demanding it]. That is because they say,"There is no blame upon us concerning the unlearned." And they speak untruth about Allah while they know it.
