The main objective of the Conference Services Division, Geneva, is to provide high-quality conference services, including interpretation, translation, official records, text-processing, printing, distribution and other documentation services, for meetings held at the United Nations Office at Geneva and other locations under the responsibility of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
(d) Further integration of quality assurance measures in the delivery of documentation services through continued enforcement of rigorous recruitment standards for all staff, whether permanent or temporary, and contractors; provision of adequate internal and external training for staff members and appropriate coaching and supervision for freelancers and contractors; and, in general, nurturing of a culture of continuous learning with the aim of maintaining the highest standards of quality of translation and editorial services provided;
(e) Further integration of quality assurance and control measures in the delivery of documentation services through continued enforcement of rigorous recruitment standards for all staff, whether permanent or temporary, and contractors, including translation companies; provision of adequate internal and external training for staff members and appropriate and timely feedback to freelancers and contractors; and, in general, nurturing of a culture of commitment to meeting and maintaining the highest standards of quality of services; .
(d) Further integration of quality assurance measures in the delivery of documentation services through continued enforcement of rigorous recruitment standards for all staff, whether permanent or temporary, and contractors, including translation companies; provision of adequate internal and external training for staff members and appropriate coaching and supervision for freelancers and contractors; and, in general, nurturing of a culture of continuous learning with the aim of efficiently maintaining the highest standards of quality of services provided;

(d) Further integration of quality assurance measures in the delivery of documentation services through continued enforcement of rigorous recruitment standards for all categories of staff(established capacity, freelancers and contractors); provision of adequate internal and external training for staff members and appropriate coaching and supervision for freelancers and contractors; and, in general, nurturing of a culture of continuous learning with the aim of maintaining the highest standards of quality of translation and editorial services provided;
Documentation services are provided for BWC meetings by the United Nations, on the basis of the annual General Assembly resolution(most recently A/RES/67/77), which requests the Secretary-General of the United Nations" to render the necessary assistance to the depositary Governments of the Convention" and" to provide such services as may be required for the implementation of the decisions and recommendations of the review conferences".
Noting the information provided on documentation services in the Report of the Implementation Support Unit(BWC/MSP/2012/2/Add.1), the Meeting of States Parties clarified the requirements for documentation services for meetings of the Convention set out in Annex II. The Meeting of States Parties requested the Implementation Support Unit to report annually on the fulfilment of these requirements,
Fuller integration of the Department ' s activities into one global operation, with sensitivity to local specificities and the needs of local clients, including addressing the increased workload in Geneva resulting primarily from the work programme of the Human Rights Council, will increase the timeliness and cost-effectiveness of the documentation services and provide better quality assurance of the expanded contractual translation services. .
total amount of $194,700 required for conference services(referred to in para. 8(a) above), an amount of $66,000 can be absorbed for documentation services within the resources available under section 2, General Assembly and Economic and Social Council affairs and conference management, of the programme budget for the biennium 2010-2011.
During the biennium 2012-2013, projected extrabudgetary resources amounting to $3,091,400 would complement resources from the regular budget for the provision of 24 Local level posts and associated costs, including other staff costs, travel, contractual services and other operating costs, related to documentation services to clients not funded through the regular budget.
The projected extrabudgetary resources amounting to $5,813,200 will complement resources from the regular budget to provide temporary assistance for documentation services for meetings of clients not funded through the regular budget, including the International Seabed Authority, and 11 posts and associated operating costs financed from the Trust Fund for German Language Translation(1 D-1, 1 P-5, 3 P-4, 1 P-3, 1 General Service(Principal level), 4 General Service(Other level)).
(b) The second meeting of the Preparatory Committee, to be held on 1 and 2 March 2011, which requires meeting services for a total of eight meetings in two days with simultaneous interpretation from and into all six official languages and documentation services for 52 pages, 60 pages and 64 pages of pre-session, insession and post-session documents, respectively, to be translated into and issued in all six official languages.
