In 2013, the" Do one thing for diversity and inclusion" campaign(the social media component of the United Nations World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, celebrated on 21 May), was organized.
Websites were created in the six official languages, and coverage arranged, for the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures, the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, and the International Day for Tolerance.

Furthermore, on 21 May 2013 various UNESCO partners celebrated the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, proclaimed by the General Assembly in 2002, recalling the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity(2001) and the importance of intercultural dialogue, diversity and inclusion.
On 21 May, UNAMI and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO), together with representatives from the Government of Iraq, civil society and various communities, marked the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development by organizing a panel discussion and cultural events.
Further, pursuant to the proclamation of the General Assembly in its resolution 57/249, various UNESCO partners celebrated, on 21 May 2013, the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, while recalling the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity(2001) and the importance of intercultural dialogue in creating unity in diversity.
UNAMI also participated in the planning of the United Nations Peace Day, together with agencies, funds and programmes(UNDP, the United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO)), and collaborated with UNESCO to prepare the celebration of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
The agreement focuses notably on the priority fields such as promoting cultural diversity for dialogue and development; fighting against extremism; promoting mutual respect amongst the people of the Mediterranean; promoting a culture of peace; promoting cultural heritage and under-water cultural heritage; scientific cooperation; women and youth employment; sustainable development and climate change.

In order to encourage the practice of a culture of peace in a daily context, a new edition of the" Do one thing for diversity and inclusion" world campaign was launched by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and UNESCO, together with a group of private-sector companies from Silicon Valley, on the occasion of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development(21 May).
Country-wide public outreach events for 300 government counterparts, civil society representatives, the media and members of the public on the occasion of World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development and the International Day of Peace; 5 online newsletter articles, 15 social media posts, 3 press releases and 5 media outreach activities to promote dialogue, tolerance and respect for diversity.
The Department promoted the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development within the official framework of the previously mentioned" Do one thing" campaign among its NGO community and the United Nations Academic Impact network.
In cooperation with the South-North Center for Dialogue and Development, and the Supreme Council for Disability Affairs in Jordan, the Office of the Special Rapporteur held an international symposium on" Research and statistics in the area of disability" in conjunction with the launch of phase two of the analysis of the Global Survey on Government Actions on the Implementation of the Standard Rules.
In both cases, the Centre established platforms for dialogue and the development of joint solutions among the countries.
