The recommendations from the Task Team have been endorsed by all relevant boards and other decision-making forums, and therefore the EU strongly urges all partners in the fight against HIV/AIDS, within the international system and at national levels, both in affected countries and among donors, to fully adhere to commitments made during the Global Task Team process.
UNDP has fostered partnerships with GFATM, the UNAIDS secretariat and cosponsors to resolve implementation bottlenecks at the country level, establishing a global joint problem-solving and implementation support team(GIST) as recommended by the Global Task Team.

In March 2005 leaders from donor and developing country Governments, civil society, United Nations agencies and other multilateral and international institutions agreed to form a global task team to develop a set of recommendations on improving the institutional architecture of the response to HIV/AIDS to reduce the burden placed on countries.

In March 2005, a global task team, comprising more than 55 Governments and organizations and facilitated by UNAIDS, launched an urgent 80-day process to develop recommendations to improve coordination in the multilateral system and to streamline, simplify and further harmonize multilateral action on HIV, with the aim of promoting strong country-led responses and reducing national burdens associated with external aid.

Bilateral and multilateral donors, national leaders and civil society addressed ways to achieve comprehensive, effective and sustainable nationally led AIDS responses. It also created a Global Task Team to find ways in which the multilateral system can streamline, simplify and further harmonize HIV/AIDS-related procedures and practices in order to make country-led responses more effective and reduce the burden placed on the managerial and technical capacity of countries.
