Allow me to express my delegation ' s regret for having to abstain in the vote on the implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on Their Destruction.
Mr. Sattar(Secretary of the Committee): The Committee will now take a decision on draft resolution A/C.1/57/L.36, entitled" Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on Their Destruction", which was introduced by the representative of Belgium at the Committee ' s 13th meeting, on 16 October 2002.
For that reason, my delegation urges the delegations of other States to unanimously adopt the draft resolution on the implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on Their Destruction(A/C.1/60/L.56), of which we are a sponsor.
Mr. Akram(Pakistan): I have asked for the floor to explain our decision to abstain in the vote on the draft resolution entitled" Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on Their Destruction", contained in document A/C.1/64/L.53.
Mr. Benítez Versón(Cuba)(spoke in Spanish): As it has in previous sessions, Cuba will abstain in the voting on the draft resolution entitled" Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on their Destruction", contained in document A/C.1/63/L.6.
Mrs. Laohaphan(Thailand): It is an honour for my delegation to introduce, on behalf of 126 countries, the draft resolution contained in document A/C.1/59/L.40/Rev.1, entitled" Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on Their Destruction".
Mr. Alasaniya(Deputy Secretary of the Committee): Draft resolution A/C.1/63/L.6, entitled" Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on their Destruction", was introduced by the representative of Jordan at the 13th meeting, on 21 October 2008.
At the 13th meeting, on 21 October, the representative of Jordan, on behalf of Australia, Jordan and Switzerland, introduced a draft resolution entitled" Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on their Destruction"(A/C.1/63/L.6).
Mr. Lew Kwang-chul(Republic of Korea): My delegation abstained from the vote on draft resolution A/C.1/57/L.36, entitled" Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on Their Destruction", because it contains provisions that are inconsistent with our security needs.
As President of the ninth Meeting of the States Parties to the Convention, Switzerland is submitting, together with Norway and Jordan, draft resolution A/C.1/64/L.53, entitled" Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on Their Destruction".
Mr. Marrakchi(Morocco)(spoke in French): My delegation wishes to make the following statement in explanation of its vote in favour of draft resolution A/C.1/63/L.6, entitled" Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on their Destruction".
Mr. Pant(Nepal): I have requested the floor to explain my delegation ' s vote on draft resolution A/C.1/59/L.40/Rev.1, on the implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on Their Destruction, which has just been adopted.
