The Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, Agenda 21 and the statement on forest principles call for action and are of vital importance now more than ever.

فاتفاقية التنوع البيولوجي، واﻻتفاقية اﻹطارية لﻷمــم المتحدة بشأن تغير المناخ، وإعﻻن ريو المعني بالبيئة والتنمية، وجــدول أعمــال القــرن ٢١، والبيــان المعــني بمبادئ الغابات، كلها تدعو إلى العمل، وهي ذات أهمية حيوية اﻵن أكثر من أي وقت مضى

The Rio Declaration on Environment and Development and Agenda 21, adopted by the international community at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, call for patterns of development that reflect the new understanding of these and other intersectoral linkages.

ويدعو إعﻻن ريو بشأن البيئة والتنمية وجدول أعمال القرن ٢١، اللذان اعتمدهما المجتمع الدولي في مؤتمر اﻷمم المتحدة المعني بالبيئة والتنمية، إلى اﻷخذ بأنماط للتنمية تعكس الفهم الجديد لهذه الصﻻت والصﻻت اﻷخرى المشتركة بين القطاعات

Reaffirming that Agenda 21 and the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development should not be renegotiated and that the review should identify measures for the further implementation of Agenda 21 and the other results of the Conference, including sources of funding.

وإذ تعيد تأكيد ضرورة ألا يعاد التفاوض بشأن جدول أعمال القرن 21 وإعلان ريو بشأن البيئة والتنمية وأن يحدد الاستعراض التدابير اللازمة لمواصلة تنفيذ جدول أعمال القرن 21 والنتائج الأخرى للمؤتمر، بما في ذلك مصادر التمويل

Reaffirming the principles and commitments enshrined in the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development and the principles embodied in the Declaration of Barbados and the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States, as well as other relevant declarations and international instruments.

إذ تعيد تأكيد المبادئ والالتزامات المكرسة في إعلان ريو المتعلق بالبيئة والتنمية()، والمبادئ المتضمنة في إعلان بربادوس()، وبرنامج العمل للتنمية المستدامة للدول الجزرية الصغيرة النامية()، فضلا عن الإعلانات والصكوك الدولية الأخرى ذات الصلة

Both the Convention and the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development stressed environmental protection

وقالوا إن تلك اﻻتفاقية وإعﻻن ريو بشأن البيئة والتنمية يشددان على حماية البيئة

Principle 2 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development stipulated that States must ensure that activities within their jurisdiction

وينص المبدأ ٢ من إعﻻن ريو المتعلق بالبيئة والتنمية بأنه يتعين على الدول أن تكفل أﻻ تسبب

Taking into account the Millennium Development Goals, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development and Agenda 21,

The Conference should also reaffirm the principles set out in the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, in particular those relating to common but differentiated responsibilities, the sovereign right of States to exploit their own resources, and the essential task of eradicating poverty.

وينبغي أيضا أن يؤكد المؤتمر من جديد المبادئ الواردة في إعلان ريو بشأن البيئة والتنمية، وخصوصا تلك المتعلقة بالمسؤوليات المشتركة ولكن متفاوتة، وحق الدول السيادي في استغلال مواردها الخاصة بها، والمهمة الأساسية المتمثلة في القضاء على الفقر

According to the Rio Declaration, the obligation to avoid causing significant transboundary harm requires an approach which promotes prevention as a duty and as a concept integral to the process of development aimed at eradicating poverty(principles 4 and 5).

واستنادا الى إعﻻن ريو فإن اﻻلتزام بتفادي إحداث ضرر عابر للحدود ذي شأن يتطلب نهجا يشجع على المنع كواجب وكمفهوم يشكل جزءا ﻻ يتجزأ من عملية التنمية الرامية الى القضاء على الفقر المبدآن ٤ و ٥

Recalling General Assembly resolution 47/190 of 22 December 1992, which urged Governments and bodies of the United Nations system to ensure effective follow-up to the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development and Agenda 21.

وإذ تشيـر إلى قـرار الجمعيـة العامـة ٤٧/١٩٠، المؤرخ ٢٢ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٩٢، الـذي حث الحكومات وهيئات منظومة اﻷمـم المتحـدة على ضمان المتابعـة الفعالة ﻹعﻻن ريو بشأن البيئة والتنمية وجدول أعمال القرن ٢١

Recalling also that Agenda 21 and the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development should constitute the framework within which the other outcomes of the Conference are reviewed, and from within which new challenges and opportunities that have emerged since the Conference are addressed.

وإذ تشير كذلك إلى أن جدول أعمال القرن 21 وإعلان ريو بشأن البيئة والتنمية يشكلان الإطار الذي تستعرض فيه النتائج الأخرى للمؤتمر، وتعالج فيه التحديات والفرص الجديدة التي نشأت منذ عقد المؤتمر

Moreover, the Rio Declaration on the Environment and Development and the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation referred to the need to take further effective measures to remove obstacles to the realization of the right of peoples to self-determination, in particular peoples living under foreign occupation.
