As part of the efforts to improve the documentation of the Security Council, the members of the Council have again reviewed the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized and the stage reached in their consideration(S/1994/20, para. 9, and S/1994/20/Add.3, 12, 14, 21 and 25).
I have the honour to inform you that the Government of the Republic of Cuba would like to retain on the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized all the items submitted by the Republic of Cuba for the attention of that principal organ of the United Nations, as they appear in the notification to the General Assembly contained in document A/53/357.
In accordance with the procedure contained in document S/1996/704, a Member State notified the Secretary-General on 2 November 2000 of its wish to have items 2, 3 and 8 above(" The India-Pakistan question"," The Hyderabad question" and" The situation in the India/Pakistan subcontinent", respectively) retained on the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized.
In accordance with the procedure contained in document S/1996/704, a Member State already notified the Secretary-General on 21 November 1997 of its wish to have items 2, 3 and 9 above(" The India-Pakistan question"," The Hyderabad question" and" The situation in the India/Pakistan subcontinent", respectively) retained on the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized.
In accordance with the procedure set out in document S/1996/704, a Member State notified the Secretary-General on 3 November 2003 of its wish to have items 2, 3 and 8 above(" The India-Pakistan question"," The Hyderabad question" and" The situation in the India/Pakistan subcontinent", respectively) retained on the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized.
In accordance with the procedure contained in document S/1996/704, a Member State notified the Secretary-General on 23 November 1998 of its wish to have items 2, 3 and 9 above(" The India-Pakistan question"," The Hyderabad question" and" The situation in the India/Pakistan subcontinent", respectively) retained on the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized.
Also, pursuant to the decisions of the Security Council referred to above and in the absence of receipt of any notification to the contrary by 30 April 2001, the remaining items listed in paragraph 2 above, that is, items 38, 41, 42, 48, 49, 62, 66, 67, 68 and 69, were deleted from the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized.
Also, pursuant to the decisions of the Security Council referred to above and in the absence of receipt of any notification to the contrary by 30 April 2001, the remaining items mentioned in paragraph 3 above, that is, items 38, 41, 42, 48, 49, 62, 66, 67, 68 and 69, were deleted from the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized.
Corr.1), dated 30 July 1996, relating to the deletion of certain items from the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized.
Also, pursuant to the decisions of the Security Council referred to above and in the absence of receipt of any notification to the contrary by 15 April 2005 requesting the retention of an item listed in paragraph 3 above, the remaining items mentioned therein, that is, items 27, 51, 61, 63, 64, 65 and 66, were deleted from the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized.
Also, pursuant to the decisions of the Security Council referred to above and in the absence of receipt of any notification to the contrary by 31 March 2000, the remaining items listed in paragraph 2 above, that is, items 37, 62, 66, 67, 68, 69, 71, 72 and 73, were deleted from the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized.
Pursuant to the decisions of the Security Council referred to in paragraphs 3 and 4 above and in the absence of receipt of notifications to the contrary by 15 September 1996, the following items relative to the maintenance of international peace and security have been deleted from the list of matters of which the Council is seized(the item numbers correspond to those contained in document S/1996/603, annex).
Also in accordance with the procedure set out in document S/2010/507, listed below are those items identified in paragraph 4 of document S/2012/10 as subject to deletion in 2012 and which, at the request of Member States and with the concurrence of the Security Council, will remain on the list of matters of which the Council is seized for one additional year.
Pursuant to the procedure set out in the note by the President, the items identified in paragraph 4 above will be deleted unless a Member State notifies the President of the Security Council by 29 February 2012 that it wishes an item subject to deletion to remain on the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized, in which case such item will remain on the list for one year, unless the Council decides otherwise.
Pursuant to the procedure set out in the note by the President of the Security Council of 29 August 1996(S/1996/704), I have the honour to inform you that the Government of Cuba is interested in having retained on the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized the following items submitted by Cuba to the Council, as indicated in paragraph 8 of document S/2005/15.
go far beyond any mere attempt by the Council to simplify the list of matters of which it is seized and extend to issues that are more important for the evolution of the role of the Council in maintaining international peace and security.
Pursuant to the procedure set out in the note by the President, the items identified in paragraph 4 above will be deleted unless a Member State notifies the President of the Security Council by 28 February 2013 that it wishes an item subject to deletion to remain on the list of matters of which the Security Council is seized, in which case such item will remain on the list for one year, unless the Council decides otherwise.
