The subprogramme will implement six existing donor-funded projects and four Development Account projects and aim to develop three new development projects in the areas of population and housing censuses, gender and employment statistics, statistics related to the Millennium Development Goals, strengthening of national statistical capacity in the Southern African, South Asian and South-East Asian regions, the dissemination of data and basic economic statistics.

The Committee requested additional information on the measures taken to implement the recommendations contained in paragraphs 57 to 64 of that report, particularly those dealing with the need to secure sufficient resources for evaluation of the United Nations operational activities for development(para. 58); the need to review arrangements for monitoring, evaluation and reporting on Development Account projects(para. 61); and to urgently mobilize resources to restore the United Nations Population Information Network(POPIN) to full capacity(para. 64).
