The Workshop on Strategies and Best Practices for Crime Prevention, in particular in relation to Urban Crime and Youth at Risk, held within the framework of the Eleventh Congress, and the compendium of promising strategies and programmes on urban crime prevention and youth at risk, provided valuable examples of innovative and effective practices in countries in all regions, including countries emerging from conflict.
In accordance with the request of the Human Rights Council in its resolution 16/27, the Advisory Committee considered a concept note on promoting the human rights of the urban poor: strategies and best practices, prepared by Ms. Chung, and assigned the preparation of a preliminary study on that topic to the drafting group on the right to food, to be presented to the Committee at its eighth session.
The Subcommittee continued its cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the World Health Organization and initiated cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime(UNODC), inter alia through the Subcommittee ' s participation to a workshop on" Strategies and best practices against overcrowding in correctional facilities" within the framework of the Twelfth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held in Brazil in April 2010.
At its eighth session in February 2012, the Advisory Committee adopted recommendation 8/2 by consensus, welcoming the preliminary study on the theme" promotion of human rights of the urban poor: strategies and best practices" and assigned the completion of the above-mentioned study to the drafting group on the right to food, to be presented to the Advisory Committee at its ninth session for submission to the Human Rights Council at its twenty-second session.
Crime prevention was an important component at the Eleventh United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, held in Bangkok from 18-25 April 2005, which considered a background paper entitled" Workshop 3: Strategies and Best Practices for Crime Prevention, in particular in relation to Urban Crime and Youth at Risk"(A/CONF.203/11 and Corr.1).
Opportunities for this will be offered at the relevant topical and/or regional meetings, such as the plenary seminar of the Conference of European Statisticians, in June 2012, or the International Association for Official Statistics Conference on the theme" Getting our message across: strategies and best practices to ensure the use of statistics in decision-making", to be held in Kiev in September 2012.

At its 8th meeting, held on 10 August 2012, the Advisory Committee, recalling Human Rights Council resolution 19/7 of March 2012, took note of the" Study on the promotion of the human rights of the urban poor: strategies and best practices"(A/HRC/AC/9/3), and requested the drafting group to finalize it in the light of the discussions held by the Committee at its ninth session with a view to submitting it to the Human Rights Council at its twenty-second session.
Acknowledges the work being carried out by the Human Rights Council Advisory Committee on the right to food and, in that regard, takes note of the final study on the promotion of human rights of the urban poor: strategies and best practices, and the final study on rural women and the right to food, both prepared by the Advisory Committee, and encourages States to take into account and consider implementing, as appropriate, the findings and recommendations contained in both studies;
four regional preparatory meetings for the Twelfth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice recognized that occupancy of prison facilities was exceeding capacity and that overcrowding was an acute and widespread problem worldwide and recommended that the Workshop on Strategies and Best Practices against Overcrowding in Correctional Facilities pay particular attention to the development of comprehensive, coordinated, multisectoral and sustained strategies and policies involving all stakeholders in the criminal justice system.
The regional preparatory meetings for the Eleventh United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice recommended that the workshop on strategies and best practices for crime prevention, in particular in
The expert group meeting recommended that every effort should be made to finalize the draft manual in time for submission to the Eleventh United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, to be held in Bangkok from 18 to 25 April 2005, as well as to the Workshop on Strategies and Best Practices for Crime Prevention, in particular in relation to Urban Crime and Youth at Risk, to be held during the Eleventh Congress.
