Requests the Programme to include in its report to the Commission on Narcotic Drugs on the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances a section on experience gained to date in implementing the Convention, which should contain recommendations and strategies for its further implementation, and invites Member States to cooperate with the Programme in this regard;
At the global level, the World Population Plan of Action, adopted by the Bucharest Conference in 1974, and the recommendations for its further implementation, adopted by the Mexico City Conference in 1984, constitute the principal legislative instruments that govern the population activities of the United Nations system.
In 2009, review of implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States and the Mauritius Strategy for its further implementation was addressed in general debate during the Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee for the seventeenth session of the Commission.
The Plan of Action was reviewed and complemented by a set of recommendations for its further implementation as a result of three quinquennial reviews and appraisals, the second of which was facilitated by the deliberations at the International Conference on Population held at Mexico City in 1984.
Three major sources have been consulted to prepare this chapter: the Plan of Action and the recommendations for its further implementation; the identification of priority areas for assistance by the Governments themselves; and the experience gained by multilateral organizations in undertaking programmes of technical cooperation.
The Working Group welcomed the progress made in implementing the work programme agreed at the third session of the Commission, and generally supported the proposed recommendations for its further implementation with the full involvement of appropriate United Nations agencies and other international bodies while noting the need to clarify and elaborate on some of them.
The Commission also reaffirms the international commitments made at relevant United Nations summits and conferences in the area of gender equality and the empowerment of women, including in the Programme of Action at the International Conference on Population and Development and the key actions for its further implementation.
We are proud to have hosted the first Global Conference on the Sustainable Development of Small Island States in 1994 and continue to work with other small island developing States to update and improve the Barbados Programme of Action and the Mauritius Strategy for its further implementation.
(b) Calls upon the international community, in particular the developed countries, to continue supporting the efforts of developing countries for capacity-building, including in the area of elaboration, translations and dissemination of voluntary reporting, by providing technical and financial assistance in accordance with the provisions of Agenda 21 and the Programme for its Further Implementation; General Assembly resolution S-19/2.
Emphasizes the need for the Population Division and the United Nations Population Fund, within their respective mandates, to enhance coordination and strengthen cooperation and collaboration between them to improve support for the implementation of the Programme of Action and the key actions for its further implementation;
Emphasizes the importance of building and sustaining partnerships among Governments and relevant civil society stakeholders for the successful implementation of the Programme of Action and the key actions for its further implementation beyond 2014, and invites all Governments and relevant organizations of the United Nations system, as well as the private sector and non-governmental organizations, to continue to support these activities;
We recognize the need for the full implementation of the Programme of Action and the key actions for its further implementation and acknowledge the findings and recommendations of the review(A/69/62), including from the global thematic meetings on youth, human rights and women ' s health, as well as the outcomes of the regional reviews, which constitute plans of action for the respective regions.
Recognizing that the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the key actions for its further implementation are integrally linked to global efforts to eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development and that the achievement of the goals of the Programme of Action is consistent with and makes an essential contribution to the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals.
The Commission also adopted a resolution on fertility, reproductive health and development, in which it reaffirmed the Programme of Action and the key actions for its further implementation, welcomed the decision of the General Assembly in its resolution 65/234 to extend both the Programme and the key actions beyond 2014 and reaffirmed its strong commitment to their full implementation and the sovereign right of each country to implement their recommendations.
Stresses that the full implementation of the Programme of Action and the key actions for its further implementation, which would also contribute to the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, as well as those on population and development, education and gender equality, is integrally linked to global efforts to eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development, and that population dynamics are all important for development;
The Bureau recalled that on 22 December 2010, the General Assembly adopted resolution 65/234 on" Follow-up to the International Conference on Population and Development beyond 2014", in which it decided to extend the Programme of Action and the key actions for its further implementation beyond 2014 and ensure its follow-up in order to fully meet its goals and objectives.
Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the key actions for its further implementation are integrally linked to global efforts to eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development and that the achievement of the goals of the Programme of Action is consistent with and makes an essential contribution to the attainment of the development goals set out in the United Nations Millennium Declaration.
Recalling resolution 65/234 adopted by the General Assembly on 22 December 2010 on the follow-up to the International Conference on Population and Development beyond 2014, in which the Assembly decided to extend the Programme of Action and the key actions for its further implementation beyond 2014 and ensure its follow-up in order to fully meet its goals and objectives.
Consequently, measures directed towards influencing demographic behaviour and population dynamics, such as those contained in the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the key actions for its further implementation, would, if fully implemented,
Emphasizes the importance of building and sustaining partnerships among Governments and relevant civil society stakeholders, in accordance with section V of the key actions, so as to strengthen the capacity of developing countries for the successful implementation of the Programme of Action and the key actions for its further implementation, and invites all Governments and relevant organizations of the United Nations system, as well as the private sector and non-governmental organizations, to continue to support these activities;
