At its sixty-eighth session, the General Assembly adopted resolution 68/192, on improving the coordination of efforts against trafficking in persons, in which it decided, in the context of the need for raising awareness of the situation of victims of trafficking in persons and for the promotion and protection of their rights, to designate 30 July as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, to be observed every year beginning in 2014.

The Ministers recalled the adoption by consensus of the General Assembly Resolution on Improving the coordination efforts against trafficking in persons A/RES/68/192 and also of the United Nations Global Plan of Action on Trafficking in Persons, especially women and children, by the UN General Assembly in resolution 64/293 on 30 July 2010, and acknowledged the role of NAM Member States in leading the negotiations process to implement the Sharm El Sheikh Declaration in this regard.

Recalling that, pursuant to the request of the Economic and Social Council in resolution 2006/27 of 27 July 2006 on strengthening international cooperation in preventing and combating trafficking in persons and protecting victims of such trafficking, reinforced by the General Assembly in resolution 61/180, on improving the coordination of efforts against trafficking in persons, the Inter-Agency Coordination Group against Trafficking in Persons was established to foster coordination and cooperation among relevant United Nations agencies and other international organizations involved in combating human trafficking.

He welcomed the decision taken by the African Union at its eleventh ordinary session to start negotiating such a plan(Assembly/AU/Dec.207(XI)). At the current session, Belarus would submit a draft resolution on improving the coordination of efforts against trafficking in persons, so as to help expedite the plan ' s formulation; he invited Member States to work out a coordinated approach to defining the format and substantive elements of such a plan.
