The Chairperson-Rapporteur of the consultative meeting on the draft Basic principles and guidelines on the right to a remedy and reparation for victims of violations of international human rights and humanitarian law recommends that the Commission on Human Rights:.

For many years, Chile also took the lead in sponsoring the resolution entitled" Basic Principles and Guidelines on the Right to a Remedy and Reparation for Victims of Gross Violations of International Human Rights Law and Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law", which was recently adopted by the General Assembly.

on 25 July, the Council adopted a draft resolution recommended by the Commission, 22 entitled" Basic Principles and Guidelines on the Right to a Remedy and Reparation for Victims of Gross Violations of International Human Rights Law and Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law", by a recorded vote of 43 to none, with 5 abstentions.

The components of remedies and reparation were articulated through the Basic Principles and Guidelines on the Right to a Remedy and Reparation for Victims of Gross Violations of International Human Rights Law and Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law approved by the General Assembly in 2005.
