In the light of the changing situation the Advisory Committee took no position on the staffing table but recommended that the Secretary-General should review staffing requirements in view of the changing nature and scope of the role of the United Nations in the former Yugoslavia with a view to rationalizing and justifying all staffing levels as soon as possible.

During the first phase of the implementation of the ICT strategy, the Office of Information and Communications Technology will, among other activities, conduct structural reviews of Secretariat-wide ICT units with a view to rationalizing and harmonizing ICT operations and structures and defining coordination and reporting relationships between the Office and other ICT units.

It recalled that, at the first part of its thirtieth session, the Working Party had requested the secretariat to prepare the rolling three-year technical cooperation plan for 1998-2000 for consideration by the Working Party at the second part of its thirtieth session and thereafter by the Trade and Development Board at its first executive session in 1998 with a view to rationalizing the technical cooperation plan(decision 444(XLIV)).
