Then We changed the ill[conditions] to good until they multiplied[in numbers] and said,‘Adversity and ease befell our fathers[too].' Then We seized them suddenly while they were unaware.
پھر ہم نے برائی کی جگہ بھلائی بدل دی یہاں تک کہ وہ بہت ہوگئے اور بولے بیشک ہمارے باپ دادا کو رنج و راحت پہنچے تھے تو ہم نے انہیں اچانک ان کی غفلت میں پکڑ لیا

And there befell them the evils of that which they had earned. And of these they who go
تو ان پر پڑ گئیں ان کی کمائیوں کی برائیاں

What befell you, when the two armies confronted each other, was by the permission of God so that He would know who were the true believers.
اور تمہیں جو کچھ اس دن پہنچا جس دن دو جماعتوں میں مڈ بھیڑ ہوئی تھی، وه سب اللہ کے حکم سے تھا اور اس لئے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ ایمان والوں کو ﻇاہری طور پر جان لے

And when their messengers brought them clear proofs(of Allah's Sovereignty) they exulted in the knowledge they(themselves) possessed. And that which they were wont to mock befell them.
پس جب بھی ان کے پاس ان کے رسول کھلی نشانیاں لے کر آئے تو یہ اپنے پاس کے علم پر اترانے لگے، بالﺂخر جس چیز کو مذاق میں اڑا رہے تھے وه ان پر الٹ پڑی

there befall you the like of that which befell the people of Nuh and the people of Hud and the people of Saleh;
کہیں ایسا نہ ہو کہ تم کو میری مخالفت ان عذابوں کا مستحق بنا دے جو قوم نوح

And there befell them the evils of that which they had earned. And of these they who go wrong-anon will befall them the evils of that which they earn; nor can they frustrate.
پھر ان کی تمام برائیاں ان پر آ پڑیں، اوران میں سے بھی جو گناه گار ہیں ان کی کی ہوئی برائیاں بھی اب ان پر آ پڑیں گی، یہ(ہمیں) ہرا دینے والے نہیں

there may befall you the like of what befell the people of Nuh, or the people of Hud, or the people of Salih,
کہیں ایسا نہ ہو کہ تم کو میری مخالفت ان عذابوں کا مستحق بنا دے جو قوم نوح

they said:'This is our due.' And whatever hardship befell them, they attributed it to the misfortune of Moses
کہتے کہ یہ تو ہمارے لیے ہونا ہی چاہیئے اور اگر انہیں کوئی بدحالی پیش آتی

So there befell them the evil(consequences) of what they earned; and(as for) those who are unjust from among these, there shall befall them the evil(consequences) of what they earn, and they shall not escape.
پھر ان کی تمام برائیاں ان پر آ پڑیں، اوران میں سے بھی جو گناه گار ہیں ان کی کی ہوئی برائیاں بھی اب ان پر آ پڑیں گی، یہ(ہمیں) ہرا دینے والے نہیں

But when misfortune befell them from Us why did they not humble themselves?
پس جب ہماری طرف سے ان پر سختی آئی تو کیوں نہ انہوں نے عاجزی اختیار کی؟

And if a bounty from Allah befell you, he would surely cry, as if there had been no love between you and him: Oh, would that I had been with them, then should I have achieved a great success!
اور اگر تمہیں اللہ تعالیٰ کا کوئی فضل مل جائے تو اس طرح کہ گویا تم میں ان میں دوستی تھی ہی نہیں، کہتے ہیں کاش! میں بھی ان کے ہمراه ہوتا تو بڑی کامیابی کو پہنچتا!

And, O my people! Let not the schism with me cause you to sin so that there befall you that which befell the folk of Noah and the folk of Hud, and the folk of Salih;
اور اے میری قوم(کے لوگو!) کہیں ایسا نہ ہو کہ تم کو میری مخالفت ان عذابوں کا مستحق بنا دے جو قوم نوح

And if a bounty from Allah befell you, he would surely cry, as if there had been no love between you and him: Oh, would that I had been with them,
اور اگر تمہیں اللہ کی جانب سے کوئی نعمت نصیب ہو جائے تو(پھر)

Yet when good came their way they said:"It is our due;" but when misfortune befell them they put the omen down to Moses and those who were with him. But surely the omen was with God, yet most of them did not understand.
تو جب انہیں بھلائی ملتی کہتے یہ ہمارے لیے ہے اور جب برائی پہنچتی تو موسیٰ اور اس کے ساتھ والوں سے بدشگونی لیتے سن لو ان کے نصیبہ کی شامت تو اللہ کے یہاں ہے لیکن ان میں اکثر کو خبر نہیں

When good things came their way, they said:'It is our due' but when evil befell them they blamed their ill fortune on Moses and those with him. Indeed their ill fortune was with Allah, though most of them did not know.
تو جب انہیں بھلائی ملتی کہتے یہ ہمارے لیے ہے اور جب برائی پہنچتی تو موسیٰ اور اس کے ساتھ والوں سے بدشگونی لیتے سن لو ان کے نصیبہ کی شامت تو اللہ کے یہاں ہے لیکن ان میں اکثر کو خبر نہیں

lest your opposition to me should bring you the like of what befell the people of Noah
قوم ہود اور قوم صالح کو پہنچے ہیں۔ اور قوم لوط

And many Prophets have fought in Allah's cause- and many devoted men were with them; so neither did they lose heart due to the calamities that befell them in Allah's cause, nor did they weaken and nor were they subdued; and the steadfast are the beloved of Allah.
اور کتنے ہی انبیاءایسے ہوئے جنہوں نے جہاد کیا ان کے ساتھ بہت سے اللہ والے(اولیاء) بھی شریک ہوئے، تو نہ انہوں نے ان مصیبتوں کے باعث جو انہیں اللہ کی راہ میں پہنچیں ہمت ہاری اور نہ وہ کمزور پڑے اور نہ وہ جھکے، اور اللہ صبر کرنے والوں سے محبت کرتا ہے

And many a prophet hath fought With a number of godly men beside him. They fainted not for aught that befell them in the way of Allah,
اور بہت سے ایسے نبی گزر چکے ہیں جن کے ساتھ بہت سے اللہ والوں نے اس شان سے جہاد کیا ہے کہ راسِ خدا میں پڑنے والی مصیبتوں سے نہ کمزور ہوئے

And many a prophet hath fought With a number of godly men beside him. They fainted not for aught that befell them in the way of Allah, nor they weakened, nor they humbled themselves; and Allah loveth the steadfast.
اور کتنے ہی انبیاءایسے ہوئے جنہوں نے جہاد کیا ان کے ساتھ بہت سے اللہ والے(اولیاء) بھی شریک ہوئے، تو نہ انہوں نے ان مصیبتوں کے باعث جو انہیں اللہ کی راہ میں پہنچیں ہمت ہاری اور نہ وہ کمزور پڑے اور نہ وہ جھکے، اور اللہ صبر کرنے والوں سے محبت کرتا ہے

so they did not become weak-hearted on account of what befell them in Allah's way,
جہاد کیا ہے کہ راسِ خدا میں پڑنے والی مصیبتوں سے نہ کمزور ہوئے
