The Working Group on International Statistical Programmes and Coordination, at its fifteenth session(New York, 29 June-1 July 1992), identified six subject areas in which a need for review was considered a priority.
The first meeting on statistical programmes of United Nations entities was held on 9 September 2007 in Madrid, in the margins of the tenth session of the Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities.
The nineteenth session of the Working Group on International Statistical Programmes and Coordination of the Statistical Commission was held in New York from 10 to 12 February 1998.
As requested by the Working Group on International Statistical Programmes and Coordination of the Statistical Commission at its meeting in February 1998, a draft of the revised Principles and Recommendations for a Vital Statistics System was prepared.
Examples of such plans are available for Mongolia and Palestine, and the" multi-annual integrated statistical programmes" whose development was stimulated by the European Union for countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States have served the same purpose.
The Working Group on International Statistical Programmes and Coordination of the Statistical Commission, at its meeting in February 1998, requested the Statistics Division to revise the Principles and Recommendations for a Vital Statistics System1 last issued in 1973.
