Report of the proceedings of the Interregional Preparatory Meeting of Small Island Developing States for the International Meeting to Review Implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action on the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States.
We call for the full and effective implementation of the commitments, programmes and targets contained in the Mauritius Strategy, adopted at the International Meeting to Review the Implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island States.
We will soon be meeting in Mauritius to review the progress made over the past decade in the implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island States.

We also hope that future outcomes of the International Meeting to Review the Implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States, to be held in Mauritius in January 2005, will contribute significantly to the preparations for the high-level plenary meeting of the General Assembly in 2005.
Acknowledge that significant gaps remain in the implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action and the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation, and call for these to be addressed through the full and effective implementation of the Samoa Pathway; the post-2015 development agenda must also take the remaining gaps into account;
Noting that the World Summit for Sustainable Development, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 26 August to 4 September 2002, considered the specific issues and problems facing small island developing States, and noting that a special meeting to review the implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action, will be convened in Mauritius in January 2005.
Expected accomplishments would include the effective implementation of outcomes of the Third United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries; progress in the implementation of the Global Framework for Transit Transport Cooperation between Landlocked and Transit Developing Countries and the Donor Community; and effective contribution to the implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action in aspects relevant to UNCTAD.

CARICOM also underscored the importance of follow-up and implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States and the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action, welcoming the decision of the Commission on Sustainable Development to dedicate one day of its sixteenth session exclusively to small island developing States.
2005 will begin with two major events: the International Meeting for the full and comprehensive review of the implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action, which will be hosted by Mauritius; and the World Conference on Disaster Reduction, to be held in Japan.
Trinidad and Tobago continues to attach high importance to the need for the international community to pay special attention to the unique challenges and problems which confront small island developing States and to full and effective implementation of the Barbados Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States.
